Vera Blue Music Video Trilogy
Universal Music Australia were looking for a distinct and striking music video to launch The Voice runner-up Celia Pavey’s new collaborative act – Vera Blue. I directed the music video for her first single Hold with animation director Pete Foley for Paper Moose Productions.
Drawing an aesthetic from the album art, we wanted to visualise her lyrics of a girl piecing herself together and rebuilding her confidence. We found that the most striking take on this journey was an incredibly literal one. It became images of her rediscovering her body - not just her clothes and her skin, but her bones, veins and organs.
Universal were ecstatic with the easy visual connections between the existing promotional art and the video. They also commented on the impact of the clip, created entirely from the lyrics and artist’s intention. Hold drew in over 500,000 views.
After the success of Hold, we were commissioned to create an additional two clips for the Vera Blue universe - Settle and Fingertips. Watched together, the clips portray an experimental journey of Vera Blue's coming of age.
Hold is currently nominated for an SAE Atom Award.
